American Gut is the world’s largest crowdfunded citizen science research project, comprised of nearly 13000 samples from 9900 people living in 41 countries and contributing nearly $2 million to the project. The goal of the project is to create a comprehensive map of the human microbiome, providing an unprecedented resource for researchers to use to identify “good” and “bad” areas on the human microbiome map-and how to move people from the bad to the good areas.
